Short description of COGS

A project funded by the European Commission and 7th Framework Programme. The central focus of the project is to define individual risk of breast-, ovarian- and prostate cancer. We use established datasets gathered from all over the world where patients with these three cancers have been identified. Lifestyle factors and genetic variants will be compared between patients and healthy controls.

The aim is to identify individuals at an increased risk of these three cancers thereby having the possibility to reduce the number of individuals that will be diagnosed with these disorders. These interventions could be anything from increased screening procedures, altered lifestyle factors or even profylactic therapy.

We also aim at identifying genetic factors and lifestyle factors that are associated with certain tumor subtypes and affect clinical outcome.

Furthermore, we will investigate the cost-effectiveness of using our calculated risk models in prevention strategies, and associated organisational, ethical, legal and social implications.
